The Region
Wanaka
lies at the heart of the Southern Lakes, New Zealand's alpine
wonderland, in the southwest of the South Island. Wanaka Township is
situated in a dramatic glacier-carved basin on the shores of the
lake and is the gateway to the Mt Aspiring National Park World
Heritage Area.
The
Park, named after it's highest peak, 3027 meter Mt Aspiring, extends
over 2900 sq. km along the Southern Alps providing recreation
opportunities from short walks and tramps to technical ice climbs or
spectacular sightseeing flights.
The
rivers and beautiful Lake offer lots of activities including jet
boating, canoeing, rafting and excellent fishing. Wanaka is near
several good ski fields (June to September)-Treble Cone, Cardrona
and a snow farm for cross-country skiing.
It's
a stunning place with heaps to do in all seasons. For more information
click here for Lake Wanaka Tourism's
guide to Accommodation, Restaurants and much more. On the
adjoining property to the vineyard the upmarket Guest House
Aoturoa has recently
been built. If you seek rural tranquillity by the Clutha River
the wonderful hosts Jon and Leslie Davies will make you feel
most welcome.
